Spicy Moon Vegetarian Szechuan

If you are looking for the tastiest vegan Szechuan food, look no further. We came here for the Mapo Tofu, General Tso’s Mushroom, and Fried Dumplings. Spicy Moon has two establishments in the East Village and West Village. The name of this place implies it’s “Vegetarian” but both of their restaurants are 100% vegan.

The Mapo Tofu is in a rich stew full of tasty morsels in a Broad Bean Sauce. It was the perfect level of spicy and a full bodied flavor. The tofu was soft and succulent, and was matched perfectly with the crunch of the vegetables.

Handmade Fried Vegetable Dumpling

The dumplings were full of shredded veggies and perfectly fried with a golden bottom. We were very impressed at how perfectly crunchy the bottom and how steamy and soft the top were.

General Tso’s Mushroom

General Tso’s Mushroom was absolutely amazing. Fluffy mushrooms, battered and fried, with the best Tso Sauce we’ve ever had. Many others in the restaurant were also ordering this and it’s not hard to see why. Using mushrooms was a smart choice and it paid off in full.

Guava Sour

The Guava Sour was a great drink to pair with this meal. It was not too sweet, not too sour, but full of guava goodness. Definitely try the drinks here, they are as good as the food.

Check this place out when you get a chance. For sit down meals, this place is normally busy but people eat quickly and we got a seat without much wait time. On the other hand, there have been some times where we see a line out the front door, so to be safe, we would recommend reserving ahead of time. The service is super friendly and happy to answer all our questions and give us suggestions. Spicy Moon is an absolute gem in the Village. Try it as soon as you can!
