Village Natural has been here for decades, serving what would be considered health food in the 80s. From what we hear, it’s really a bit of a village institution. As you enter, you feel like you’re entering a wooded hideout in the city, complete with greenery and a vegetable still life painting over the hearth. The atmosphere and decor are truly laid back and unpretentious with some light jazz music in the background to set the mood.

The menu is extensive and hard to put in only one category. You’ll see some of what you’d find at Asian, Mexican, and American spots, but the overarching theme is natural, healthy food that is inviting for vegans, vegetarians, and pescetarians alike.

Our food came out very quickly and the service was attentive, friendly, and helpful. We had the Sesame Soy Chicken Delight and the Chipotle BBQ Burger. The burger held well together with the right balance of sauce and firm ingredients, while the onions and the sweet potato fries added a wonderful crunch. The Sesame Soy Chicken could be a perfect hearty meal on its own; it had an incredible texture – so meat-like, we had to double check with our waiter. Yes, it’s very tasty – and vegan. But know that your omnivore friends might not believe that they’re eating plant-based. The meal was so satisfying and filling that we didn’t have enough space for their famous pies, but we have sworn to return.

We were left dreaming about our meal the next day, which means that Village Natural is doing something very right. Try this easy going neighborhood staple for yourself and don’t forget to bring some friends.
